Homework
Textbook assignment: Read Kotz and Triechel, Chemistry and Chemical Reactivity Chapter 7: Sections 4.
7.4 Ion Electron configurations: Here we simply need to keep track of how many electrons we have, since the number will differ from the ground state of the neutral atom.
There are no equations for these sections.
Read the following weblecture before chat: Electron Configurations
Review the Videos at Thinkwell Video Lessons.
Use the interactive site e-1 Configuration Instructions to work out the electron configurations for elements from each of the eight groups listed. Click to create the box notation, check the chemist shorthand notation, then check your answer.
OR
Use the Electron Configuration Matching Game to see whether you can match electron configurations with their elements.
Carry out the experiment you designed in phase I. Collect your data in an appropriate format, and perform all planned analysis. If you think your data is incomplete or inaccurate, and you have adequate supplies, repeat your procedure. If so directed, be prepared to share your data with your peers.
