The United States, Canada, and Australia all become independent nations with stable governments, while the countries in Latin America remain in turmoil long after they have evicted Spanish and Portuguese authority. What are the differences in how power is viewed in the former colonies of Spain and Portugal, and those of Britain? How does this affect the formation of the governments of the independent states? How does it affect the success of those governments?
