The period of the Cold War saw governments exert power externally by building up military forces and arsenals, but also internally by controlling their own citizens in different ways. But power also resides in the people — if you can rally enough of them. What popular protests and revolts arose in Europe (including the USSR) and the US in the 1960s and 1980s? Which achieved their goals? Which failed and why?
